For Magdeburg, it was the seventh victory in eight league matches. With 14-2 points, the team sits at the top of the table, though it has played one game more than the still undefeated SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Magdeburg's top scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with nine goals, followed by Felix Claar with seven. Goalkeeper Matej Kuzmanovic recorded eight saves before the break.
Claar said after the match that the team played well for 60 minutes and controlled the game. Earlier in the same week, Magdeburg had already defeated SG BBM Bietigheim and THW Kiel 32-26 before a home crowd.
League play continues for both clubs in mid-October. HC Erlangen faces MT Melsungen on October 11. Magdeburg hosts TVB Stuttgart on October 18 following its international match schedule.
